Thoughts on Life

Countach

Jun 5th, 2024

I'd like to be driving my Land Cruiser one day, and come upon a Porsche or a 5 series BMW on the freeway. Maybe I would give the driver a nod, as if to say, "Hey dude, nice ride." And when he would give me the courtesy "My car kicks so much ass over your car, it's not even funny; and now I am feeling better about myself at your expense, thanks man" return nod, that's moment that I would push the button on my console labeled, Countach.

Forty

Jan 11th, 2017

For the past seven years, I’ve been writing these lists on my birthday of things that I’ve learned in the past year. This year happens to be 40. Perhaps it’s no coincidence that this year has, personally, been the hardest year of my life. This may come as a surprise to some of you who “know” me from our online social circles. For the past six years, I’ve been writing these lists on my birthday of things that I’ve learned in the past year. This years, compared to others, is much more introspective. I guess that’s just what happens when you get old. Follow the links to read Thirty Eight, Thirty Seven, Thirty Six, Thirty Five and Thirty Four. Next year will likely be my last, Forty. It’s been a lot of fun to think back over each year and see how my thinking has changed. Hopefully you enjoy reading these as much as I’ve enjoyed writing them.

For the past five years, I’ve been writing these lists on my birthday of things that I’ve learned in the past year. Looking over this and some of the previous years, it’s funny to see how I expand on certain topics, or discover more about myself as time goes on. Follow the links to read Thirty SevenThirty SixThirty Five and Thirty Four. This year wasn’t necessarily hard, but it wasn’t that easy either. I can tell that I’m getting older just even in my thinking comparing this list to previous years. I see more and more of these types of lists now. I dig it. I do them mostly for myself, but perhaps you might enjoy them too.

Thirty Seven

For the past three years, I’ve been writing these lists on my birthday of things that I’ve learned in the past year. You can read Thirty SixThirty Five and Thirty Four if you’d like. I’ve seen a lot more of these lists pop up recently and I’ve seen some rebuffs towards them as being ridiculous. I don’t pretend to think I have all this wisdom and it is my duty to bestow it on you, the reader. These lists are for me to look back on one day and enjoy. Perhaps you might enjoy them too.

PAY IT FORWARD

I’ve always been interested in the idea of paying forward what knowledge I have—share with others what others have shared with me. I think it’s not only important, but it’s our job as veterans in this industry to set the next generation of leaders up for success.

If this resonates with you, and you want to meet with me, grab some time on my calendar and we can chat.
